Splitting a Block
Next let’s add Dogs.wav into track 4, then label the track appropriately.
- We need more dog barking than just this little bit, but to repeat this single block over and over would sound far too patterned, so we need to re-build the sound effect. Keep the original at the beginning, and let’s add two more sections of dog barks. Copy the block and paste it near the middle.
- We now want to split the barks apart, so identify each bark individually.
For each gap in between, select the block, place your playhead at that point, and split the block. This can be done right clicking on the block and selecting “Split”, or with the block selected, you can use Clip > Split [Cmd + K] or right click on the block and select Split.
- Of course, you could also use the razor tool here. That would be the best way. Split split. Slice slice. Cut cut. Until you have single barks and small groups of barks.
- Now drag them around in a random fashion. Be sure to space the block so that they sound natural.
