Patching
QLab allows you to patch outputs into eight different slots rather than exposing each device to your audio cues. This allows you to quickly and easily alter or adjust a patch. If I move from my office to the theatre, I can switch from my Built-In Ouput, listening on my headphones, to the actual Dante Virtual Soundcard that I’ll be using in the space. I don’t have to go to each individual cue to make this change. All I have to do is make a new selection from the drop down menu.
Because several patches can use the same device, this also allows me to create different setups and scenarios that utilize the exact same device.
Finally, a patch allows me to add and change information about the device, which is what we’ll talk about in later lessons.
