Changing a Target
QLab doesn’t hold the media it uses inside the workspace. Media files are located somewhere on your computer and QLab simply points, references, “targets” the file.
So when you hit “GO” on an piece of music, QLab grabs the file from your Music folder and begins playing it.
Sometimes, during the design process, we change our minds and need to change the target of a Cue. That’s not too hard. We have three different ways of making this update.
The first method is to drag the file into QLab and drop it on top of the Cue. Tada. That’s it. Updated.
The next method is to use this small button in the cue list. If I click it I’m shown a Finder window. I can use this dialogue box to navigate to the location where my files are kept and select the new one. Press “Okay” and we’re off to the races!
The final method is to use the inspector. If we select the cue, all of its properties will show up in individual tabs. Under the “Basic” tab, I can update the target by either dragging the file onto this box or by double clicking and selecting the file. What’s especially nice about this box is I can now identify the location of the file using the breadcrumbs. Where was that file stored again? Don’t worry, I’ve got this. In fact, click this button here and QLab will take me straight there.
